I'm dressed special for you too.

[Squall will be able to hear the start of a curious hum but it cuts off when he continues and then Nyx laughs, that low pleased chuckle that's so familiar by now.]

Oh? Two presents for me huh?

[Followed by the sound of chair legs scraping against the wooden floor and the jingle of keys being dragged off a surface.]

[Squall quickly gets up to unlock his door hearing Nyx shuffling and then heads to the couch facing it and sits there waiting for Nyx. Is he naked? Yes. He has a tray of coconut cookies on the coffee table in front of him and nothing but a blanket draped over his waist to cover him. His face is red just at the thought of Nyx walking in on him like this any moment.]

Yeah, two presents. I hope you like them. Door's open for you.

[Nyx doesn't actually say anything else, just purses his lips to make a little kiss sound before cutting the call. A carry-over from when he used to tease Pelna. There's a moment, after he hangs up the call, as he's stepping out of his apartment that he has to stop, leaning against the doorway as the thought brings up the memory of sounds- screeching metal, screams cut short by the crunch of shattering bone and the wet thump of useless meat. He can't breathe- bile rising in his throat, adrenaline suddenly making his heart race. The door bumps lightly against his shoulder and he gasps sharply, the world rushing back in, the warm colors in the hallway pulling him away from the cold steel walls of a Niflheim airship.

His breath comes out in a rush and he does his best to take it in stride. Counting silently as he drags in another harsh breath. The motions of locking his door are rote and familiar and it's only two steps to cross the hall. He's opening the other door before he has time to consider that Squall was doing something special and maybe he should get his shit together more before he steps inside. Still the tells are small, too many years of constant fighting and hell mean that there's rarely time to sit down and process flashbacks, whenever they come.

His heartrate is a little too fast, his face a little too pale, something guarded and fragile in his smile. At least until he finally takes in the Squall's bare chest and.... legs? And....? One brow goes up, some of the ease coming back into his expression with a lopsided sort of grin.]

Mmm what did I do to earn this?

[Squall was about as red as he could get by the time that doorknob turned. This was something he wasn't used to doing, had honestly never thought to do but he really thought Nyw would like it. Sure he'd kind of asked him out already but not properly. Things had been to emotionally charged that first time so he thought he'd ask again and ease it with some sex since he hadn't done it with Nyx in a bit anyway. He'd taken a chance and really hoped it was something Nyx would like.

He never thought he'd be so wrong. When Nyx entered the apartment it was like he wasn't there. His eyes were almost vacant, in a way that reminded him of when the first met. It was like Nyx was somewhere else and wasn't seeing what was in front of him but something else. He knew that look. Trauma. Nyx wasn't okay and despite the comment that came after that was more teasing, Squall hadn't missed that look and needed to make sure Nyx was okay first.

Getting up caused the blanket to fall and expose himself to Nyx but he quickly picked it up and wrapped it around his waist like a towel as he walked over to Nyx and closed the door, practically pinning him against it.]

Hey, drop the act Nyx. You okay? Talk to me.

[At first he's all grin and suggestive brows, eyes roving over Squall's body... only to snap back up to his face as the blanket gets wrapped around him.]

Somethin' special huh?

[A little too late, the mask not enough to deter someone as observant as Squall. He turns his head, leaning back against the door.]

It's nothin, just... remembered something shitty.

[He tries to shrug it off though, hands going to the brunet's hips, fingers dipping beneath the blanket at his waist. Sex honestly sounds like a great distraction right about now.]

[Oh they will have sex, Squall is way too horny and needy not too but not until Nyx talks to him. Sorry Nyx.]

Hey, tell me what you remember first. Sex after, promise.

[It's rather difficult but he does pull away from Nyx just so he can't keep touching him and making him change his mind on this.]

You can always talk to me Nyx. I care about you.

[Squall steps back and Nyx makes a small sound in his throat, something needy and hurt and he's immediately following the other man. He keeps his hands over the blanket this time, not giving Squall any reason to pull away but for a moment he just wants the solid warmth of another person under his hands.]

Yeah, I know. Just... don't wanna think about it.

[Nyx leans in to try to steal a kiss if Squall will let him, squeezing him close, before he finally admits at least a general idea of what is lingering in his head.]

...people I couldn't save.

[Honestly the fact he even mentions he's been thinking about people he can't save is enough for Squall not to pry further, at least right this moment. He can get the story eventually but for now he just wants to get Nyx to relax and maybe calm him down. He does let Nyx steal a kiss and let's him touch where he wants if it helps him.]

Nyx, I know how that feels. Come to the couch with me?

[He gives him one more kiss and then takes his hand to lead to the couch.]

Was it something I said that triggered it?

[He hates feeling like Squall has to tiptoe around him like he's fragile or some shit. He's not. He's... He's fine. This shit just happens sometimes.]

No... Nah, it's not-

[Nyx slumps onto the couch next to the other man, bumping their shoulders together, one hand settling on Squall's thigh but it's a simple gesture of affection, not trying to push for more (yet).]

It was somethin I did... He... he was our techie a lot. Used to give him shit, sign off with a kiss just to annoy him.

From what I know about you Nyx I don't think he was just your techie. Were you two...a thing?

[Squall leans in closer until he's resting his head against Nyx's shoulder, looking over at the cookies on the table and wondering if maybe he should tell Nyx what kind they are first or save them for later. He probably doesn't want to eat right now but it might help him if he did. He hopes Nyx has been eating well since moving out.]

You don't have to tell me the details if you don't want but...I'd like to hear to be able to help.

Nothin like... official. Both Glaives. Our lives belonged to the crown.

[Nyx leans in against Squall as well, resting his cheek on top of his head.]

But he uh... was one of the first losses when the Empire played their hand.

I see. I'm sorry you lost him Nyx...

[He only knows the bare minimum from Nyx. He knows he's a glaive which is basically like a knight for a king in some other world and the kingdom fell to am empire but he never got much more information from that. The rest he had to piece together from what he saw when he first met Nyx and just from listening to him.]

If it helps..you can tell me more about him...about all of your world. I care about you Nyx and that means your past too, not just your present and future.

[He turns a little to look up towards him, a small smile on his face and trying to cheer him up.]

[Nyx is quiet for a long time after Squall says that, curling an arm around him, leaning into him, replaying those final words to his Captain in his head.

A future he'd known he would never see. And now he's here in this strange world... with no idea what the future holds.]

I've spent... a long time looking to the past. Someone recently reminded me that honoring the past doesn't mean giving up hope for the future. [A weak smile, grudging but affectionate. Something he'd needed to hear even if he didn't want to at the time.]

You remind me a lot of her. Earnest compassion.... stubborn determination... A knack for getting into trouble- [He almost cuts himself off as he leans in to kiss Squall again, softer this time, gentle and a little apologetic. He'd wanted something far different than Nyx being morose and, as usual, getting caught up in the past.]

[There is slight concern in Squall's eyes as he watches Nyx seem to zone out in real time and he reaches up to him to touch his cheek, waiting for him to come out of it himself. He doesn't want to push.]

Well...whoever she is she spoke words of wisdom. Sounds like you liked her a lot too. I guess if I remind you of her that's a good thing then. Though I get in trouble because I'm with you. [Squall leans into the kiss happily, smiling back at Nyx. He doesn't need an apology what he wants is Nyx just being okay. He does sit up entirely and gives Nyx one more kiss.]

Do you want to tell me more about them? I'm happy to listen to your stories, I just want to know if I should put on some clothes first.

And deny me my presents? [There's a playful smirk there but it's at least partially for show. Still there's a vulnerability in his gaze that he's rarely seen hints of before, the genuine damaged parts of Nyx that he tries so hard to keep compartmentalized. That same haunted look when he'd spoken of His Majesty when he'd first arrived. Present but pleading not to have to say anything more.

Squall tries to give him only one more kiss, tries to put a little distance between them, expecting to need to get up. And Nyx follows after him, rotating on the couch to put his weight on his good knee, swiftly straddling the brunet. His hands come up to cradle Squall's face, fingers tracing lightly over his cheeks and temples and up into his hair.]

Keep me here. [He finally murmurs, catching those steely eyes once more. It's not a physical request and they both know it. Talking about it, about them, about his people... it hurts and it makes it that much harder not to fall into the trap of his own mind. But Squall's touches, the warmth of him, the spark of magic against his own. All subtle grounding things that can keep him here, in the moment, in the present.

Keep him from becoming a slave to the past as well.]

[Its worrying to see Nyx so upset like this. He wants to take all the pain he can away. When Nyx Straddles him he doesn't push him away this time, instead he places his hands on the mans hips, a firm grip so he'd feel him there first. His hands trail up so they are mirroring what Nyx is doing and cupping his face in return. Stormy grey eyes seem to mellow as he gazes' into Nyx's blue with the forever speckles of violet from magic. Nyx is so stunning it hurts to look at him sometimes, like he's viewing something he shouldn't be allowed to see. This is one of those moments he just looks so painfully beautiful and an ungloved hand traces down the marks on his face with a tender affection. The kisses trail down until he takes Nyx's still scarred hand in his and kisses the back of it down to the ring finger and the source of it all.
I care about you Nyx, so much. I wanted to do things proper and ask you out properly. You deserve the world and I only have myself to offer you.

[Squall looks down at the hand in his own and once more kisses it before looking up at Nyx, gentle caressing his head, a hand touching one of his braids.] These are beautiful. Do you think I could have one someday? Or maybe...[That same hand traces the tattoo on his neck, then the one near his eye.] What would I need to do to earn one of my own?

[Ask him out properly. That's so painfully sweet. Nyx shakes his head gently.]

Don't need the world. Don't want it. [He leans in to nuzzle against Squall lightly, fingers pushing up into his hair.] Only you, geddah.

[His breathing hitches slightly when Squall asks about his tattoos, though, one hand coming up to catch his wrist. Nyx draws it up to brush his lips over the brunet's knuckles.]

Eventually... some of them. [Squall doesn't need to have the long straight lines on his throat. Nyx needs him not to be that stupid.]

[The way Nyx can be so tender with him in these moments and so hot in the next is just one of the reasons Squall cares about him so much. Every day with Nyx is like a fun rollercoaster of emotions and though sometimes Nyx can be stubborn, it's still a really fun ride.]

You already have me, Nyx. [That kiss to his hand has him pausing momentarily to just look at Nyx, at the way those eyes always look at him with a glint of mischievousness but can be so powerful with just a glance. Stormy eyes trail down to his lips and he leans forward to capture them against his own.] I'll take any mark you think I deserve, I want to be yours. I want to help you preserve your memories and traditions.

[That he accepts that limitation so easily, without argument, and turns it around into being something for Nyx, something he needs to earn to be like him, like his people only tugs harder at his heartstrings.]

[His voice is thick, choked with emotions he should probably actually explain to Squall but instead of doing something reasonable like that he simply brings his hands up to hold the brunet's face while he kisses him. There's a hint of desperation in the kiss but it doesn't drive Nyx to something harsh and hungry the way it may have a few weeks ago.]

[Yeah he should ask about the way Nyx is holding him. There is a bit of worry for Squall but he wouldn't be him if he didn't worry. Instead of saying anything he answered the kiss a bit slower, not matching Nyx's pass and trying to get him to breathe and enjoy the sweet and slow paced moment between them. His own lips part, letting Nyx take a bit more from the kiss as his own hands run through the short buzzed sides of his head, enjoying the almost velveteen texture there before letting himself get lost in Nyx's longer hair.

Squall shifts, the blanket at his waist shifting as well as he gets more comfortable against Nyx. It starts to fall off but Squall doesn't fix it. It's not like Nyx hasn't seen him naked before but he did wish they could talk a little more before this. Oh well, if this is what helped Nyx more he wasn't going to push him away. He does however pull back from the kiss for a moment.] You're beautiful to me Nyx, all of you, even the pieces I haven't found yet. I care about all that makes you who you are.

[Nyx accepts the slower pace surprisingly easily, content so long as Squall's hands remain on him, lips against his, warm and soothing. Enough that he lets his lips move from Squall's to his cheek and down to his neck.]

You're so sweet to me, geddah... [Murmured against his skin, hands smoothing down his shoulders, letting his fingers roam over his arms and torso as the brunette speaks.]

Tell me you love me later. [One hand shifts to drag his blunt nails lightly down along Squall's side and Nyx takes that moment to roll his hips down against the other's lap as well.] Right now just fuck me. Please.

[Those kisses feel so nice on his bare skin and for once he's glad he doesn't really get bothered by the cold. His whole back is exposed save for the warmth he's getting from Nyx as he straddles him, nude still save for the blanket falling off his hips.]

Geddah...one day tell me what it means, please? [Squall's voice comes out a bit raspy, enjoying the kisses and gentle touches from his lover. His eyes close for a moment, long lashes touching his cheek as he arches into Nyx, meeting his roll of hips with his own nude one.]

N-nyx...why can I just tell you now? [Stormy eyes open and he leans in, leaving a kiss on Nyx's neck before he reluctantly moves to reach for a bottle of lube he'd hidden by the bottom of the couch.] I want to tell you how much I love you, why don't you strip and I'll touch you while I tell you all the ways I love you?

[ His breathing is a little harder than it should be, emotions still high and Squall seems bound and determined not to let him lose himself in the physicality of what they have between them, insistent instead on doting on him. Gentle and sweet and so many things Nyx has never had before, has convinced himself he doesn't deserve anymore. It does nothing to quiet the rush of emotions but he also doesn't have it in himself to deny the younger man when he is so prepared to bare his heart to him.

He can only hope that he doesn't damage it as much as his own has been. ]

O-okay. [ His voice is tight but he nods, crushing one more kiss to his lips before he shuffles off of Squall's lap. He's barely dressed as is, having been puttering around his apartment. A tee and track pants, both easy enough to toss onto the coffee table next to those cookies.

When he returns to Squall's lap though he faces away from him, still straddling him but with his back pressed to Squall's chest so he can lay his head back on the other's shoulder. If he has to feel Squall inside him, around him, listen to him speak so sweetly, and fall into those stormy eyes he's not sure he'll be able to withstand the intensity of it all. ]
